Area residents are invited to ?meet? the Fort Atkinson City Council and School Board candidates via Facebook Live, through a candidate forum hosted by the Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, March 26, beginning at noon. The Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee decided to try this new format in hopes of reaching the audience that utilizes social media for information sharing. Anyone with a Facebook account can tune in to the forum and submit questions as the candidates are being interviewed. ?It?s the next best thing to participating in person,? explained Fort Chamber Executive Director Carrie Chisholm. ?We?re hopeful this format will enable people to engage with the candidates, and limit interruption to their work schedules.? The forum will be taped and posted on the Chamber?s Facebook page, so those who cannot tune in can watch at another time.
There are three seats open on the Fort Atkinson City Council, with incumbents Mason Becker and Paul Kotz seeking re-election. Chris Scherer currently serves on the planning commission and is seeking to fill the seat vacated by Davin Lescohier. All three are running unopposed and plan to participate in the forum.
The Fort Atkinson School Board also has three candidates, with two seats open. Incumbent Mark Chaney, current board president, will face newcomers Adam Paul and Kory Knickrehm. The latter two have confirmed their participation.
The forum starts at noon with the city council candidates, followed by the school board candidates at 12:30pm. Residents are welcome to submit questions ahead of time by emailing them to Carrie Chisholm, director@fortchamber.com.
