The Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce is a private, non-profit, membership-driven organization comprised of more than 350 business enterprises, civic organizations, and educational institutions focused on addressing the business community’s needs. As a strategic partner in developing economic prosperity, the chamber offers a high profile, challenging opportunity for an individual interested in business development. Its mission is “to promote and maintain a strong business community in the Fort Atkinson area.”
Reports to Executive Director
The Associate Director is responsible for managing chamber member relations and business development. Works closely with Executive Director in coordinating the program of work and day-to-day operations of the chamber, including special projects and fiscal processes.
Duties and Functions:
1. Member Management- Maintain membership at a level that supports program operations. Schedule membership events and coordinate renewals. Oversee the Ambassadors, a group dedicated to the retention and recruitment of association members.
2. Program of Work- Identify membership needs and align a program of work designed to meet these needs (networking, education, promotions, recognitions, etc). Evaluate effectiveness of projects and recommend changes as necessary.
3. Fiscal Processes- Manage monthly membership invoicing and prepare financial reports for board of directors’ review.
4. Strategic Planning- Assist Executive Director and Board of Directors in maintaining continuity and consistency of programming. Assess and anticipate emerging community/business challenges. Evaluate relevance of programming as relates to these opportunities.
Knowledge, Experience and Education required:
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in sales/marketing, communications, or business management
Solid knowledge of Fort Atkinson business community
Superb interpersonal and communications skills, ability to relate to diverse audiences
Creative thinker with tactical implementation skills and precise attention to detail
Proficient in the use of modern technology and social media platforms
Stellar organization and follow-through, willingness to be accountable for measurable goals
Positive and optimistic demeanor
Capable of maintaining sensitive/confidential information
Self-confident and steadfast composure
Position has contact with all levels of business member organizations (employees to CEOs), media, and vendors. Professional demeanor in communication, dress and speech is essential. Must be able to calmly multi-task priority projects and manage a significant workload while meeting multiple deadlines. Must be self-directed and team-oriented. Must be willing to work an occasional evening and weekend, and follow any job-related instructions pertaining to other duties as may be assigned.
Compensation and Benefits
The chamber offers ten paid holidays plus ten paid vacation days after one year of service, short and long-term disability, and vision and dental insurance. Employees who have completed one full year of service, and who are 21 years of age, are eligible for participation in the chamber’s 401K.
