    Job Description

    The School District of Fort Atkinson is accepting applications for a Manager of Nutrition Services. The Manager of Nutrition Services will manage student nutrition operations, is responsible for developing and executing a financially sustainable department while promoting healthy habits for students, expanding current services that are customer driven, and implementation of all student nutrition initiatives. This position works a 220-day calendar.

    Essential Functions:
    The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

    1. Maintain a self-sufficient department by: Implementing a cost-effective procurement system; Implementing strategic ordering, inventory, and bidding practices; Identifying cost control points; Developing purchasing guidelines; and Utilizing labor and/or cost analysis tools.
    2. Lead a successful department through: Engaging and mentoring employees; Developing kitchen teams; and Recruiting, assessing, training, coaching and managing performance.
    3. Expand customer base by: Developing menus and recipes that cater to customers; Following current market trends; and Delivering quality food products and excellent customer service.
    4. Maintain knowledge of new or emerging customer driven markets, best practices in quantity cooking, state and federal safety and sanitation regulations, and state and federal dietary guidelines.
    5. Develop short and long-term plans that are mutually beneficial to specific school sites and the department, that increase customer participation, increase sales, and/or decrease costs.
    6. Prepare and evaluate distributor bids for food product orders and equipment/supply purchases.
    7. Oversee and manage Free and Reduced applications, ensuring that applications are being completed and processed properly and ensuring strict confidentiality.
    8. Ensure that all equipment in the cafeteria area is in safe working condition and obtain best quote and arrange for repair of equipment when needed.
    9. Review all invoices for billing accuracy and submit to business office for timely payment.
    10. Maintain efficient inventory control on food/supplies/equipment by maintaining accurate historical records.
    11. Develop the annual food service budget in collaboration with the Director of Business Services.
    12. Plan work schedules, arrange for subs when required, and maintain employee time cards.
    13. Serve as district resource for district initiatives both inside and outside the department, supporting initiatives that involve or directly impact students and nutrition.
    14. Communicate with district stakeholders on student nutrition projects, initiatives, and issues.
    Requirements:
    • Advance knowledge of mass quantity cooking, quantity food production, best practices for delivery of quality products to large numbers of customers.
    • Advanced knowledge of Federal nutrition guidelines.
    • Advanced knowledge of State and Federal safety and sanitation regulations.
    • Knowledge of menu planning, rotating menus, and seasonal regulations.
    • Knowledge of best practices in hiring, training, and evaluation subordinates.
    • Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment, basic maintenance, and cleaning.
    • Skilled in project management, team building, and leadership of employees.
    • Knowledge of, and able to prepare for, food service reviews by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as well as health and sanitation inspections.
    • Skilled in planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning and reviewing the work of others.
    • Skilled in critical thinking and decision-making skills.
    • Skilled in maintaining appropriate records and submitting proper, accurate reports.
    • Skilled in planning and ordering to meet the department’s ever changing needs.
    • Resourceful and skilled in a fast-paced environment.
    • Skilled in mathematical calculations and basic algebraic concepts.
    • Ability to operate autonomously, professionally and with discretion.
    • Ability to exercise independent decision making and judgement; make decisions within parameters established with his/her supervisor; organize and manage multiple tasks; and support department personnel as needed.
    • Ability to manage resources within budget constraints.
    • Ability to communicate professionally in a clear and effective manner. Ability to compile, analyze, and interpret data to inform the adjustment of operations accordingly.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in specific areas;* OR
    • Bachelor's degree in any academic major, and State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors OR
    • Bachelor's degree in any academic major and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition programs experience OR
    • Associate's degree or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in specific areas,* and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition programs experience.
    *Specific majors/areas of concentration; food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field.

    Requires a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
