The Chamber is excited to hire an individual to help generate and promote tourism in Fort Atkinson!
In collaboration with Chamber staff, this team member will build awareness of Fort Atkinson and its amenities with the intent of creating a positive economic impact through increased tourism spending. Produce written, visual and oral copy for public relations activities, publications, brochures, newsletters, social media outlets, media releases, advertising, and other internal/external communications. Manages media buys and placement.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Oversee activities of Tourism Commission - Oversee and maintain website(s) and social media platforms - Maintain online event listings on external sites - Develop and manage annual tourism budget and payment of tourism invoices - Coordinate annual advertising campaign promoting Fort Atkinson as a destination - Oversee marketing of the Fort Atkinson Farmer Market - Participate in Jefferson County Tourism Council meetings and activities - Research, write, fact-check, edit, and post articles and press releases - Produce internal and external newsletters - Respond to inbound media inquiries and track local media coverage of organization - Oversee promotion of retail attractions and coordinate with Retail Chairperson - Track and maintain statistics and data of marketing programs for regular analysis, reporting and planning - Actively support and participate in chamber events and programs Specific Projects/Activities: - Annual media buys - Retail and Farmer Market promotions - Attracting overnight stays - City street banners - Quality of Life Book & City Map - Promotional photos and videos Knowledge, Experience and Education Required -Associate or Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, business or related field - Preferred experience in association management industry -Experience and success in developing compelling written, oral and visual presentation materials - Knowledge of social media applications and website development -Knowledge of Fort Atkinson tourism amenities -Ability to assess marketing opportunities and develop strategic plans to reach targeted audiences -Ability to organize, plan and prioritize workload involving multiple projects at one time - Ability to think creatively and with innovation, as well as provide solutions -Ability to relate to and communicate effectively to diverse audiences - Ability to travel to county, regional and state meetings when required -Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team - Results-oriented and willingness to be accountable for measurable goals - Capable of maintaining sensitive/confidential information -Strong experience working with media and print vendors -Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe PhotoShop, QuickBooks and Constant Contact Additional Attributes Position has contact with all levels of business member organizations (employees to CEOs), media, and vendors. Professional demeanor in communication, dress and speech is essential.
Must be able to calmly multi-task priority projects and manage workload while meeting multiple deadlines. Must be self-directed and task-oriented. Must be willing to work an occasional evening or weekend, and follow any job-related instructions pertaining to other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
Compensation and Benefits Wages will be determined in accordance with applicant’s experience and qualifications. The chamber offers ten paid holidays plus accumulated paid time off after successful completion of probationary period. Short and long-term disability, vision and dental insurance are available, and full-time employees who have completed one full year of service are eligible to participate in the chamber’s retirement plan. The chamber does not currently provide group health insurance coverage.
