Chamber Hosts Cyber Security Lunch and Learn
As the world moves towards a more digital-based footprint, small businesses do not always have the resources to keep up with the dramatic advances. To address this issue, the Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Lunch and Learn business seminar on Thursday, September 10 at the Fort HealthCare Auditorium from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Sponsored by Computers Nationwide and in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the topic of this seminar is Cyber Security for Small Business, and is free to Fort Atkinson Chamber members. Non-members are welcome to attend for the cost of lunch.
Speaker Brian S. Dennis, Director of the Cyber Security Center at UW-Whitewater, will offer tips and simple changes that business owners can make to keep them, their employees, and their clients safe. “The average cost of a cyber security breach in a small business is $134,000,” Dennis said. “Sixty percent of businesses breached will be out of business in six months.”
The newly formed Cyber Security Center for Small Business at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is tasked with helping businesses across the country build cyber security plans that work. Dennis has a background in business recovery and disaster management. Originally from the bayous of South Louisiana, he was in New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina. He helped rebuild businesses and services in the city following the storm. Dennis holds a Master’s degree from Arizona State University in Emergency Management & Homeland Security and is an Associate Business Continuity Professional certified through Disaster Recovery Institute International.
Lunch sponsors Computers Nationwide specialize in IT support and technical services designed for business, including commercial surveillance, low-voltage cabling, managed IT, Office 365 Business Services, phone systems, voice and data circuits, and web design and managed hosting.
Registration for the lunch and learn can be found on the Fort Chamber’s calendar of events at www.fortchamber.com/events/calendar, or by calling 920-563-3210. The cost for non-members is $10/person.
