Fort Chamber Celebrates National Manufacturing Month
Fort Atkinson Celebrates National Manufacturing Month
Manufacturing Day, which takes place nationwide on Friday, October 5, is a celebration of all things manufacturing and is designed to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. In addition to celebrating Manufacturing Day, Wisconsin designates the whole month of October as Manufacturing Month.
The Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce a voting contest to determine the “Coolest thing made in Fort Atkinson” in recognition of National Manufacturers Month. Similar to the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce “Coolest thing made in Wisconsin,” the chamber is featuring products made locally. Community members are invited to vote at www.fortchamber.com/manufacturing-month. The winner will be revealed at the chamber’s November 15th Business After Hours.
In addition, as part of the chamber’s workforce development efforts, four large employers are hosting tours of their facilities for local school counselors, technical education instructors, and staffing agencies. The intent of the tours is to showcase the skill sets needed to work in today’s high-tech manufacturing companies.
According to the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WMEP), Wisconsin's manufacturing sector drives economic growth for the state. For every $1 spent in manufacturing, another $1.81 is added to the economy, the highest multiplier effect of any economic sector. Wisconsin manufacturers employ more than 450,000 workers, and the state's manufacturing concentration is 87% higher than the national average. Wisconsin manufacturing workers on average earn $10,000 more and have better benefits than other private sector workers.
