  • Project LEAD Registration Open Through August 30

    August 14, 2019
The Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce’s Project LEAD begins its 32nd year this September.
One of the Chamber’s most popular programs, Project LEAD begins in September at the Hoard Historical Museum, followed by monthly sessions at area companies and organizations.  Participants in the program are introduced to the leadership of the area’s largest employers, while learning the inner workings of what makes the community function. The program strives to build future leaders with a desire to serve the community, so participants also determine a project that addresses a local issue or concern.
Dr. Mike Bender, of Bender, Kind & Stafford DDS, is the leadership facilitator for this year. Topics such as effective networking, team building, and situational leadership are addressed in the programming, while participants broaden their understanding of the economic, political, and social systems within the Fort Atkinson area.

“It is one of the best ways to get acclimated to the inner workings of the city in a relatively short period of time,” states Carrie Chisholm, Executive Director of the Fort Atkinson Chamber of Commerce. “Understanding the resources, processes, challenges and opportunities in our community is the first step in making a positive impact. The class project is an actionable way to meld the leadership training and community need. It can be a very rewarding experience.”

Recent projects include enhancing the Fort Aquatic Center with additional shade structures, a decorative archway, lighting, and handicap-accessible furniture for Riverwalk Plaza, expanding the bilingual materials at the Dwight Foster Library, replacing ash trees decimated by the emerald ash borer, and building a playground in a new subdivision to attract additional families.

Project LEAD requires a minimum commitment of one half day each month (always a Wednesday morning, except for one evening retreat) from September through June.  Registration is $275.  Class size is limited to 15 participants.  For more information, or to register, please contact the chamber at 920-563-3210 or visit www.fortchamber.com.   The registration deadline is August 30, 2019.
